The Xmas Tree Hunt
This year some friends from work invited me to join them in finding an xmas tree. No, I'm not talking about going to the closest parking lot and picking one up, I'm talking about driving up into the middle of the woods and finding the perfect tree and cutting it down. I was excited because not only was I getting out of town for a while, we were going to do some off roading and I planned on using my new snow shoes.
After getting a late start, we left town around 8:30pm yesterday evening and headed for the mountains. Our caravan was awesome, involving two Jeeps and a big ass truck. Needless to say, it was a great time! After some off roading, Travis's truck was stuck in a 4-5 ft drift with a flat tire and we still hadn't started looking for the perfect tree yet. Now, I've changed a few tires, but never in temperatures hovering around 0 degrees. It wasn't that bad though, just keep moving to keep warm.
After having the Jeeps pull us out of the ditch we got the tire changed, chained back up and we were out! Now the hunt was beginning. After finding a great spot that had a ton of good sized trees, I got out and tested the snow shoes (Atlas 1025). I must say, they sure do make it easier to get around in the snow for sure. So, we found three trees that were looking great! I decided not to cut one, since I won't be around for xmas (yay Mexico!!), but next year could be a different story!
